**IMPORTANT REMINDER: Complete Prep work**

Dear Fawakih Journeyer,

You've come so far in your journey and made an intention and investment to improve yourself. Leading up to the start of 1B, preparation in these days are the most critical to ensure you are able to complete this next stage of your journey. Every minute invested in preparing today, will pay off multi-fold tomorrow.

This is the time to sharpen your axe prior to the live sessions starting!

Below is important information you need before 1B live classes begin. Please check your WhatsApp group description which has the link to your calendar.

1) Dictations

Dictation involves an instructor reading a sentence in Arabic with students writing down (ideally typing) the Arabic as they hear it. These are critical for students to improve their reading and writing of Arabic words. They are great for giving insight into famous sayings of the Prophet Muhammad (some students even memorize them)!
 
Try to finish before classes start!

*WARNING: We suggest not including diacritical marks (fatha, damma kasra). The automatic grading works better without these markings. Even then, do not expect the automatic grading to be accurate each time. Even if spacing or voweling is off (or missing), it may count you wrong. Ignore the grade in that case and self-check.

2) Do Listening Fill in the Blanks Ahead

REQUIRED PRIOR TO CLASS, *RECOMMENDED* TO COMPLETE THEM ALL PRIOR TO THE SEMESTER STARTING

You will go through 12 listening clips this semester to build your vocabulary and comprehension speed. Please listen to the recordings and fill in the blanks in the binder BEFORE the respective lesson video below. The answer keys are available on the next page, but don't look at those until after you go over in class with the instructor.

Note 1: This is the same Whatsapp group from 1A. So if you are already in that group, you do not need to join again.

4) Learn Video Lessons


**WE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO STUDY AS MANY (IF NOT ALL) OF THE LESSONS YOU CAN BEFORE THE LIVE SEMESTER BEGINS. YOU WILL GET MORE OUT OF THE SEMESTER AND IT REDUCES THE CHANCES OF FALLING BEHIND.**
 
This class uses an inverted learning format which maximizes benefit during live sessions. In order to do that, students are required to complete watching all videos for each lesson in Level 1B prior to the respective live session with the instructor. The live session will offer increased opportunity to engage with the content and internalize it but it is predicated on the student's completion of the content before attending the live class. Use the links below to access each lesson's videos prior to class that week.

5) Explore the Hans Wehr Dictionary!
The Hans Wehr root-based dictionary can be a very useful tool, especially as you start preparing for Level 2. With this tool, you can search by the Arabic root, and sometimes be able to use the english equivalent letter! For example to find كتاب, you would put in ك ت ب, but k t b will also get you there!

6) Class Link

Your classes are accessed through the link in your WhatsApp group. Please make sure to join 10 minutes before class starts. When clicking the link for the 1st time, you will be prompted to download the "Zoom" application for improved access. 

7) Errata Page

We work hard to make sure our binders have minimal mistakes but there are still a few typos that you might come across. If you think there is an error/typo etc. in your binder please refer to it.
